Whitby Museum
- In 1827 a “Fire Preventive Establishment” supported by subscriptions was formed (no further details).
The 1893 10” to 1 mile OS plan shows a fire engine house on Pier Road near Scotch Head & the lifeboat houses. (Whitby old fire station 2)
In 1923 a steam fire engine was bought, second-hand, from Redcar Corporation.
In 1928 the steam engine was replaced by our first motor fire engine for which the present fire station was built in 1930.
